National Division 1 Championship round up

Swim Ireland’s I A G Championships and Summer Open was held in the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin with some fantastic results from Ireland’s top swimmers. The competition was run across five days with 744 swimmers in action from 102 clubs including visiting teams from South Africa, Dubai and the UK.

New Ross Swimming Club had 12 members who qualified for the event; Eoin Bergin, Cian Foley, Jack Nolan Whitney, Stuart Vaughan, Evan Bailey, Denis Kilbride, Jack Coode,  Derbhille Cruise, Caoimhe Daly, Min Allen, Sadhbh Bailey, Abi Cullen and Ruth Kelly.

On day One, the team enjoyed a number of PB swims from Abi, Evan,  Jack NW,  Jack Coode,  Cian and Min.  Abi Cullen made finals in the 200 Free, where she placed 6th and 10th  in the 400 IM..  While Caoimhe Daly made her final in the 400 IM, with a 5th place finish overall.  Both boys and girls relay teams performed well.

Day 2 Personal best times for Cian, Abi, Sadhbh, Jack NW, Eoin, Caiohme, Stuart, Evan and Min.  Finals for Jack NW, Cian,  Derbhille and Caoimhe. With Cian Foley winning a silver medal in the 1500 Freestyle.

Day three and Abi Cullen brings home silver in the 400 Freestyle final.  Again good solid swims from Ruth Kelly, Caoimhe Daly,  Derbhille Cruise,  Sadhbh Bailey and Min Allen, Eoin Bergin, Jack NW,and Evan Bailey all improving on their times.  Finals also for  Derbhille and a sixth place in the men's 800 relay.

Day 4 brings PBs for Sadhbh , Jack NW , Evan and Stuart.  Yet again finals for Abi,  Cian and Jack NW .  The girls 14 and under relay team of Caoimhe, Min, Sadhbh and Abi take silver in the 800 Free.

On the final day, the team gave it their all and had the best results of the championships with Derbhille winning silver in the 800 Free.   Abi Cullen, again bagged a podium placing with bronze and a fantastic achievement by young Ruthie Kelly at her first division one finishing 9th in the country in the 800 free! Both Caoimhe Daly and Abi Cullen make the final 10 in the back stroke.      The boys team of Eoin Bergin, Jack Nolan Whitney, Cian Foley and Jack Coode, place 7th in the Medley  Relay.  While against the  odds, and a very exciting swim, the Girls U14 relay team (Caoimhe, Min, Sadhbh and Abi)  again take silver in the 400 Medley Relay. A great end to a great championship.

The club will now take it well earned summer break, before preparing for the 2017/18 season.
