Irish Age Group Championships end another successful season for New Ross Swimming Club

Five days of racing at Swim Ireland’s Irish Age Group Championships and Summer Open threw up lots of exciting results for the New Ross squad.
 
Over 870 athletes from 109 clubs competed in the competition for age group and open titles in 45 events. Visiting teams included Bermuda, Canada, Egypt, England, Hong Kong, Italy, New Zealand, Scotland, the UAE and Wales adding international interest to the meet.
Before they departed for Rio de Janeiro and the Olympic Games on Monday both Shane Ryan and Nicholas Quinn also competed which was a real treat for New Ross gang.
The 13 strong crew of Team New Ross competed in over 85 swims, reaching 21 finals 8 podium finishes.

Outstanding swimming from first time Division 1 swimmer Sadhbh Bailey (12) who took a silver medal in the 100 Free along with three bronze in the 200,400, 800 distances in Freestyle U12. Spectators were treated to a real ding dong battle by Sadhbh in the 800 when she slowly reeled in her opponents coming from 5 places behind to secure that podium placing. 
 
Equally outstanding were Clodagh Quirke (17) and Denis Kilbride (15) who again gave some exciting displays of distance swimming.  Clodagh took silver in the 1500 Free and Bronze in the 800 Free, while Denis came in with a Bronze for his 1500 and 800 Freestyle effort.

The remaining athletes all excelled in their distances and strokes with important PB gains and top 10 placings.
Team New Ross comprised of; Min Allen (12) Evan Bailey (11), Sadhbh Bailey (12) Eoin Bergin (21), Danielle Colfer (14), Jack Coode (17), Deirbhile Cruise (16), Caoimhe Daly (13), Cian Foley (17), Lydia Kehoe (18), Denis Kilbride (15), Jack Nolan-Whitney (15) and Clodagh Quirke (17).
The squad also competed in two U14 relays (Min Allen, Sadhbh Bailey, Danielle Colfer and Caoimhe Daly) and two mixed relays (Eoin Bergin, Denis Kilbride, Lydia Kehoe and Clodagh Quirke. 

The Club extend their congratulations to the swimmers and thanks in particular to coach Fran Ronan as well as assisting coaches Steve Cruise and Paul Allen These competitions could not be reached without their hard work, effort and support.
