What excitement in the Apex last weekend! New Ross Swimming Club held its first competitive gala in the New Pool and Leisure Complex.  The kids have waited such a long time for this; they have been dying to show off their pool to all their friends and competitors from around the county.    Over 100 swimmers from Swim Club Courtown, Slaney Sharks in Enniscorthy, Wexford Swimming Club and St Fiachs Swimming Club in Carlow came to the competition.

The newly developed pool didn’t disappoint - It was superb for the occasion, with plenty of viewing access and bright, airy conditions for the swimmers.  Competing on the day for New Ross were Nicole and Cael Colfer, Molly Hennessy Murphy, Moilli Connolly, Liam Murphy, Laura and Mikey Connell, Orla Fleming, Shauna Bowe, Mairead Royce, Evan and Leagh Bailey, Ide and Elaine Asple,  Ryan Murphy, Donnacha and Ciaran McCarthy, Tiernan Foley, Eabha Cullen, Matthew Murphy, Conor Redmond and  Shauna Bowe.   The evening ended with happy New Ross swimmers, securing several podium finishes and super PB’s.

On the same weekend the more senior swimmers in the club hit the NAC for the Leinster Distance gala.  Despite the setback of some competitors having to cancel due to seasonal colds and illnesses the remaining 15 squad members took on the challenge of 43 swims, with 33 personal bests in 200, 400 and 800 meter distances.  Competing in the NAC  for New Ross were;

Sadhbh Bailey  (11),   Ciara Bethell  (12) Aoife Brennan  (12)  Ciara Brennan  (13)  Danielle Colfer  (13)  Caoimhe Connolly  (15)  Caoimhe Daly  (12)  Erin Flanagan  (12) Niamh Fogarty  (16) Cillian Foley  (13)  Rónán Gibbon  (11)  Lydia Kehoe  (17) Ruth Kelly  (10)  Denis Kilbride  (14)   and Stuart Vaughan  (13).

The club are back in action in early February representing their many schools in the National Schools Gala  an All-Ireland event for Primary and Post Primary schools from the four provinces.
