Well done to Denis Kilbride, who was selected as the best male swimmer in his agecategory at the Leinster Division 1 meet, back in June 2017. This is based on Denis's excellent performance at that meet, where he came second in the 100 meter freestyle, 5th in the 100 meter back stroke, First in the 1500 meter free and 7th in the finals of the 200 free. He again made finals in the 200 back, placing an excellent 10th. He then went onto place fourth in the 400 Individual Medley prelim's, maintaining 4th position in the finals. Denis improved his placing in the 200 fly, moving from 5th in the prelims to a podium place of third in the finals. He also competed in the 100 meter back (placed 13th overall) and 50 free (18th overall). All of these placing earned Denis and team New Ross Valuable points which marked him as top swimmer in his category. A truely deserved award, to a dedicated sportsman! Denis will unfortunately miss the IAG Div 1 Championships, the first time in a long number of years, due to health grounds. But he will be supporting the team from the bank and we are all looking forward to seeing him back in the pool shortly. Well done Denis! |
